On the afternoon of November 26, 2021, at the headquarters of the General Statistics Office, the signing ceremony of the project document “Supporting Vietnam to improve the quality of official statistics” took place between the General Statistics Office and Statistics Denmark and the Embassy of Denmark. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the General Statistics Office chaired the ceremony at the bridge point of the General Statistics Office. Attending directly at the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Trung Tien, Deputy General Director of General Statistics Office and leaders of GSO agencies. On the side of the Embassy of Denmark, there were Mr. Kim Højlund Christensen, Ambassador; Mr. Henrik Hjorth, Counselor; Ms. Nguyen Hai Ha, Program Officer and some staff of the Embassy. Attending online at the Danish Statistics Office were Ms. Birgitte Anker, Director General; Ms. Linnea Lue Kessing, Advisor and representative of leaders of some units participating in the project.
After Director-General Nguyen Thi Huong received the Danish Ambassador, the signing ceremony of the Project Document “Supporting Vietnam to improve the quality of official statistics” was solemnly held.
Speaking at the Signing Ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, General Director of the General Statistics Office of Vietnam warmly welcomed the Danish Ambassador and emphasized the important significance of the visit to the General Statistics Office, especially the He will attend and sign the Project Document “Supporting Vietnam to improve the quality of official statistics”.
At the end of 2019, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Danish Government is ready to sponsor the General Statistics Office to develop a technical assistance project in the field of administrative data. The Embassy of Denmark has made great efforts, coordinating with the General Statistics Office and the Danish Statistics Office to discuss in detail the content of cooperation and how to implement it. After 2 years of efforts to develop the Project Document, on November 4, 2021, on behalf of the Government of Vietnam, the Minister of Planning and Investment approved the Project Document. According to the regulations of the Government of Denmark, the Project Document submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark needs to be signed by three parties including the General Statistics Office, the Statistics Office of Denmark, and the Embassy of Denmark.
This is a technical assistance project to strengthen the capacity, quality of official statistics, sustainable development in the future through the use of administrative data and big data. The project’s activities are in line with the world’s statistical development trend and are very practical, especially in the context that Vietnam Statistics is preparing to implement the Vietnam Statistical Development Strategy for the 2021 period 2030 and a vision to 2045, aiming to increase the use of administrative data and big data.
The project will launch a long-term cooperation process between the Governments of Vietnam and Denmark on official statistics with a focus on using administrative data to produce population, education, and migration, exploiting opportunities to use big data in statistical production and compiling the first system of economic-environmental accounts for Vietnam. The General Statistics Office of Vietnam and its partners will jointly establish and develop new methods of statistical production and data presentation. Experts from Denmark will provide direct input into this process and will share good practices in the collection, processing, use of statistics, the exchange of participation, and coordination of stakeholders. relevant agencies and information providers.
The General Statistics Office is committed to working closely with the ministries and sectors in Vietnam and the Danish Statistical Office to successfully implement the Project, contributing to further strengthening the cooperation relationship between the two agencies National Statistical Office in particular and the cooperation of the two Governments in general.
