From January 14th-15th, 2020 in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam held a Conference on Implementing the Work Plan for the year 2021 in the Statistics sector. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of General Statistics Office chaired the Conference. Participants attended the meeting at the headquarters of the General Statistics Office, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Planning and Investment; Chief of Office, leaders of some departments under the Ministry of Planning and Investment. On the side of the General Statistics Office, there are leaders of the General Statistics Office; representatives of leaders and specialists of department under the General Statistics Office, non-business units; Delegates came from 63 provincial Statistical Offices. In addition, the participants also attended the Conference, who were former leaders of the General Statistics Office, leaders of departments, administration department of the General Department, non-business units, and the retired Director of provincial Statistical offices. There are 223 bridge points at the provincial Statistical Offices attending online conference.
The Conference on implementing the work plan in 2021 included: Summary report on the work of Statistics 2020, directions and tasks for the year 2021; summarize the emulation and commendation work in the 2016-2020 period and launch the emulation movement in 2021; summarizing the work for the advancement of women in Statisticial system in the 2016-2020 period and directions and tasks for the period of 2021-2025; some issues about the organization and personnel of the sector; some issues about financial management; the orientation of converting the number of Statisticial system; some contents on the coordination and sharing of administrative data for State statistical activities; implementing the work management software system of the General Statistics Office; some speeches of the Statistical Office of provinces and cities directly under the Central Government. At the same time, the Conference signed an emulation covenant in 2021 and awarded emulation titles and commendations to the teams and individuals who had excellent achievements in statistics.

After the report on outstanding results in 2020 of the Statisticial system, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong presented the Report on the results of statistical work in 2020 and the direction and task in 2021. Accordingly, the whole Statisticial system Statistics has raised the sense of responsibility, initiative, creativity, solidarity, cooperation, overcoming difficulties and successfully completing all the tasks set out in 2020: Improving the quality of statistical information, the quality of analysis and forecasting to promptly serve the assessment of the situation and propose solutions for the country’s socio-economic management; complete surveys in the plan, ensure the quality of information collected; continuing to innovate the statistical regime method according to international standards and in line with Vietnam’s practice; promoting the application of information technology in all statistical activities; effectively implementing the Law on Statistics, the Vietnam Statistical Development Strategy, and major projects of the sector; implementing successfully and effectively the organization and staff work; streamlined apparatus arrangement, in accordance with the functions and duties of the system; improving the quality of inspection and supervision of statistical activities and financial management; well performing foreign statistics and international cooperation, continuing to expand, strengthen international integration, promote cooperation in statistics work, be flexible and ensure Vietnam’s successful ASEAN chairmanship on Statistic in 2020; promoting administrative procedure reform; continuing to build solid, stable, clean, strong and developed agencies and units.
Addressing at the Conference, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung mentioned the role of the Statistics sector and highly appreciated the achievements of the Statisticial system in 2020. In which, Minister emphasized that 2020 is a year with full of difficulties and challenges. In that condition, the Party, the National Assembly, the Government, ministries and agencies have closely followed and proactively monitored the socio-economic situation in order to have a suitable policy, harmonious combination of policies, so that we had a very successful 2020 year. To have these great achievements, it must be mentioned the role of the Ministry of Planning and Investment as the general advisory body of the Government. In this success, there is also a significant contribution of the Statisticial system.
The Statisticial system will have many onerous duties in 2021, so the Minister has asked the entire Statisticial system to improve the sense of responsibility, overcome difficulties and exist to focus on implementation. well tasks in the year 2021: To well perform the tasks of securing, propagating and disseminating statistical information; propose scenarios for economic growth, update changes in the world economic situation, then propose scenarios and forecasts to help the Government, the Prime Minister and the Minister in directing and macroeconomic management; focus on well implementing the 2021 Economic Census, must apply information technology and digital transformation so that the census can be conducted faster, more accurately, at low cost while still ensuring the goals and mission set out; focus on building and effectively implementing the Statistics Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045; innovating statistical methods and regimes; focus on training in order to improve professional skills, the core leadership team should have the spirit and dare to take responsibility.
Responding to the direction of the Minister, Director General Nguyen Thi Huong promised to absorb all the direction of the Minister and seriously implement the whole sector.
To summarize, by 2020, the Statisticial system has united, made efforts to rise up and successfully completed the tasks assigned by the Party, Government and Ministers to the sector. On the basis of promoting the strengths and overcoming the shortcomings, it is certain that, in the year 2021, according to the statement of the Minister of Planning and Investment, the Statistics sector will continue to unite, be creative and responsive acutely, successfully implemented three breakthroughs to successfully implement the work plan in 2021, creating a solid foundation for the development in the coming period, contributing to the sustainable development of the Planning and Investment sector and Statistics, worthy of the belief that the Party, State, Ministers, and Leaders have given to the Sector for nearly 75 years.
