In the morning of December 4th, 2020, the General Statistics Office held a Workshop on Summary of the pilot survey and the plan of the 2021 Economic Census. Mr. Nguyen Trung Tien, Deputy Director General, Team leader of the standing group of the Central Census Steering Committee, chaired the workshop and delivered a speech. Participants of the workshop were representatives of relevant ministries and branches, small and medium enterprises association and representative leaders of departments under GSO.

At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Viet Phong, Director of Trade and Service Statistics Department announced the Decision to establish the Standing Group of Central Census, Report on the results of pilot survey of the 2021 Economic Census and deployment plan in the future. The report presented some results achieved after the pilot survey conducted in 4 provinces and cities including Hanoi, Hai Phong, Phu Yen, Tien Giang: Directly exchanging, guiding and supporting the investigation units to access the software fill the questionnaires; collecting to the units on the suitability and feasibility of the indicators in the questionnaire, the user-friendly and accessible online software; cooperating with invesigation units to fill information on Web-form, CAPI. In addition, the Report also highlighted advantages and disadvantages of the pilot investigation process and some shortcomings, problems to implement the survey, the questionnaires and the software to collect information. Consequently, making recommendations and proposals to improve the 2021 Economic Census.

Also at the workshop, representatives of leaders of units under GSO announced the Decision and Plan of the 2021 Economic Census, presenting the process of making list and questionnaire of enterprises, individual units, public non-business and religion, beliefs, associations and announced the Propaganda Plan of the 2021 Economic Census.

The 2021 Economic Census collects information on economic and public non-business establishments to meet the following purposes:

Firstly, evaluating the growth in number, size and labor of economic establishments; business results; the level of information technology application; structure and distribution of establishments and labor by provinces, by economic branch and by form of ownership in order to meet the management requirements of the Party, State, ministries, branches and localities.

Secondly, calculating the official statistical indicators of the statistical majors, indicators of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in 2020 according to the the project “Renewing the process of compiling the data of Gross Regional Domestic Product” and other statistical indicators under the system of national accounts.

Thirdly, updating information, building a database to serve the transformation of the base year for compiling socio-economic statistical indicators; to create a master sample of economic establishments for next sample surveys of Statistics sector, ministries, branches and localities.

After discussion and sharing experiences on the Economic Census, Mr. Nguyen Trung Tien, Deputy Director General, concluded and thanked delegates who attended the workshop.
