Gender statistics that help policymakers identify the differences and inequalities between women and men, their priorities and needs; thereby contributing to the development and criticism of policies and programs aimed at ensuring maximum benefits for both women and men, promoting, operating, developing, implementing and monitoring policies and programs, socio-economic development, ensuring substantive gender equality in all fields.
To encourage institutions, organizations and individuals to pay attention to and use gender statistics, The General Statistics Office (GSO) developed a set of national statistical indicators on gender development (SNSIGD), including 105 national gender development statistical indicators, which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 56/2011/QD-TTg of 14 October 2011. Immediately after that, publications on gender statistics were compiled and published by the General Statistics Office in 2012, 2016 and 2018.
In 2019, the SNSIGD were reviewed, revised and updated in accordance with the actual situation and on July 30, 2019, the National Gender Development Statistical Indicator Set with 78 indicators was issued by the Minister of Planning and Investment in Circular 10/2019/TT-BKHDT. According to the provisions of Circular 10, the General Statistics Office collects, synthesizes and compiles publications on gender statistics in Vietnam for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. The publication introduces an overview of the legal basis for gender statistics, gender equality, and at the same time analyze and evaluate gender statistics and present data tables and graphs on the following topics: Population; Labour & Employment and access to resources; Leadership and management; Educations and training; Health and related services. The statistical information in the publication is collected and compiled from sources: statistical reports of state management agencies, national surveys conducted by the General Statistics Office.
We hope that this publication will provide useful information and statistics for readers to understand the existing gender relations and gender gaps in society. Also, it is expected to facilitate gender analysis and forecast of gender impacts of legislation, policies and programmes for women and men to ensure their equal access to, participation in, and benefits from the national development process. We hope this publication will promote discussions and specific actions towards closing the existing gender gaps in Vietnam.
