1. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries

a) Agriculture

– Winter-spring rice: As of April 15, 2024, the whole country has cultivated 2,948.6 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, down 2.5 thousand hectares compared to the winter-spring crop last year, of which: Northern localities cultivated 1,057.5 thousand hectares, down 9.4 thousand hectares; the southern localities cultivated 1,891.1 thousand hectares, an increase of 6.9 thousand hectares. Southern localities harvested 1,612 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, accounting for 85.2% of the sown area and equal to 102% over the same period last year, of which the Mekong Delta harvested 1,423.9 thousand hectares, accounting for 95.7% and equal to 100.6%.

– Summer-autumn rice: As of mid-April, southern localities cultivated 553.5 thousand hectares of summer-autumn rice, equal to 130.9% of the same period last year, of which the Mekong Delta reached 544.8 thousand hectares, equal to 131.2%.

– Annual crops: The area of some crops such as corn, soybean, peanuts continued to decrease compared to the same period last year mainly due to low economic efficiency.

        – Breeding: Pig and poultry farming grows decently. It is estimated that the country’s total pig population by the end of April 2024 will increase by 3.7% compared to the same period in 2023; the total number of poultry increased by 2.2%; the total number of cows decreased by 0.2%; The total number of buffaloes decreased by 2.7%.

b) Forestry

Forestry production promotes the planting, care and protection of forests, harvesting timber until the exploitation period. Generally, in the first four months of 2024, the newly concentrated planted forest area is estimated at 68.3 thousand hectares, down 1.2% over the same period last year; the number of scattered forest trees reached 31.1 million trees, up 2.4%; exploited wood output reached 5,133.8 thousand m3, up 5.2%; damaged forest area was 388.5 ha, down 27.2%, of which the area of forest cut and cleared was 259.7 ha, down 27.1%; the area of burnt forest is 128.8 hectares, down 27.5%.

c) Fisheries

Seafood production in April 2024 is estimated at 772.4 thousand tons, up 3.3% over the same period last year, of which: Aquaculture production is estimated at 418.3 thousand tons, up 5.4%; fishing output was estimated at 354.1 thousand tons, up 0.9%. Generally, in the first four months of 2024, seafood production is estimated at 2,713.9 thousand tons, up 2.5% over the same period last year, including: Fish reached 1,996.3 thousand tons, up 2.3%; shrimp reached 297.6 thousand tons, up 3.8%; Other fisheries reached 420 thousand tons, up 2.3%.

2. Industrial production

– Industrial production in April continued its positive growth trend. The industry-wide manufacturing index (IIP) for April 2024 is estimated to increase by 0.8% month-on-month and 6.3% year-on-year. In the first four months of 2024, IIP is estimated to increase by 6.0% year-on-year (the same period in 2023 will decrease by 2.5%). In which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 6.3%, contributing 5.5 percentage points to the overall increase; electricity production and distribution increased by 12.3%; contributed 1.1 percentage points; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 5.3%, contributing 0.1 percentage points; The mining sector decreased by 4.6%, down 0.7 percentage points.

– The index of industrial production in the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period last year increased in 54 localities and decreased in 9 localities across the country.

– The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of April 1, 2024 will increase by 1.2% compared to the same time last month and increase by 3.4% compared to the same time last year.

3. Enterprise activities

– In April, the whole country had 15.3 thousand newly established enterprises, up 8.4% over the previous month and down 4.1% over the same period last year; more than 8.3 thousand re-operated enterprises, up 175.1% and down 13.6%; 4,139 enterprises ceased for a certain time, down 19.6% and down 0.2%; 7,618 enterprises temporarily ceased and awaited dissolution procedures, an increase of 84.1% and an increase of 6.4%; 1,344 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, down 4.8% and down 10.9%.

– Overall, in the first four months of 2024, the whole country had 81.3 thousand newly registered businesses and return to operation, an increase of 3.0% compared to the same period last year. On average, each month, there were 20.3 thousand new businesses established and returned to operation. The number of businesses withdrawing from the market was 86.4 thousand, an increase of 12.2%. On average, 21.6 thousand businesses withdraw from the market each month.

4. Investment

Implemented investment capital from the State budget in April 2024 is estimated to reach nearly 44 trillion VND, an increase of 8.3% over the same period last year. Overall, in the first four months of 2024, realized investment capital from the State budget is estimated to reach 142.8 trillion VND, equal to 20.1% of the year’s plan and up 5.9% over the same period last year (same period of 2023 equals 18.4% and increases 5.5%). Specifically:

Total foreign investment capital registered in Vietnam as of April 20, 2024, including: Newly registered capital, adjusted registered capital and value of capital contributions and share purchases by foreign investors reached nearly 9.27 billion USD, an increase of 4.5%. compared to the same period last year.

Foreign direct investment capital realized in Vietnam in the first four months of 2024 is estimated to reach 6.28 billion USD, up 7.4% over the same period last year.

Vietnam’s investment abroad in the first four months of 2024 has 36 projects newly granted investment certificates with a total Vietnamese capital of 98.3 million USD, down 29.8% over the same period. last year; There were 3 rounds of capital adjusted projects with the adjusted capital increasing by 580 thousand USD, a decrease of 95.7%.

In the first four months of the year, Vietnam’s total investment capital abroad (new and adjusted capital) reached 98.9 million USD, down 35.6% over the same period last year.

5. State budget revenue and expenditure

Total state budget revenue in April 2024 was estimated at 175.6 trillion VND; Accumulated total state budget revenue in the first four months of 2024 was estimated at 733.4 trillion VND, equaling 43.1 % of the year estimate and up 10.1% over the same period last year.

Total state budget expenditure in April 2024 was estimated at 138.4 trillion VND; accumulated in the first four months of 2024 was estimated at 522.2 trillion VND, equaling 24.6% of the yearly estimate and increasing by 4.4 % over the same period last year

6. Trade, prices, transport and tourism

a) Retail sales of consumer goods and services

Total retail sales of consumer goods and services at current prices in 4/2024 was estimated at 522.1 trillion VND, up 9% over the same period last year. Generally for the first four months of 2024, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services at current prices was estimated at 2,062.3 trillion VND, up 8.5% over the same period last year (up 13.3% in the same period in 2023), if excluding the price factor, up 5.3% (the same period in 2023 increased by 8.7%).

b) Export and import of goods[2]

Total export and import turnover of goods[3] in 4/2024 was estimated at 61.20 billion USD, down 5.2% over the previous month[4] and up 15% over the same period last year. Generally, in the first four months of 2024, the total export and import turnover of goods reached 238.88 billion USD, up 15.2% over the same period last year, of which exports increased by 15%; imports increased by 15.4%[5]. The trade balance of goods had a surplus of 8.4 billion USD.

– Export of goods: Export turnover of goods in 4/2024 was estimated at 30.94 billion USD, down 8.1% over the previous month and increased by 10.6% compared to the same period last year. Generally in the first four months of 2024, the export turnover was estimated at 123.64 billion USD, increased by 15% over the same period last year. Of which, the domestic economic sector was 33.62 billion USD, went up 21%, accounting for 27.2% of total export turnover; the FDI sector (including crude oil) attained 90.02 billion USD, increased by 12.9%, sharing 72.8%.

Regarding the structure of exported groups in the first four months of 2024, the group of processing industry was estimated at 108.27 billion USD, accounting for 87.5%.

 – Import of goods: Import turnover in 4/2024 was estimated at 30.26 billion USD, decreased by 2% over the previous month and increased by 19.9% compared to the same period last year. Generally in the first four months of 2024, the import turnover was estimated at 115.24 billion USD, increased by 15.4% over the same period last year. Of which the domestic economic sector reached 41.86 billion USD, went up 19.7%; the FDI sector gained 73.38 billion USD, up 13.1%.

Regarding the structure of imported groups in the first four months of 2024, the group of production materials was estimated at 108.33 billion USD, accounted for 94%.

– Regarding the export and import market of goods in the first four months of 2024, the United States was the Viet Nam’s largest export market with a turnover of 34.1 billion USD. China remained the largest import market of Viet Nam with a turnover of 41.6 billion USD.

The trade balance of goods in March had a trade surplus of 2.78 billion USD[6]; first quarter had a trade surplus of 7.72 billion USD; April was estimated to have a trade surplus of 0.68 billion USD. Generally in the first four months of 2024, the trade balance of goods is estimated to have a trade surplus of 8.4 billion USD (in the same period last year, the trade surplus of 7.66 billion USD).

c) Consumer price index, gold price index and US dollar price index

– Consumer price index (CPI) in 4/2024 increased by 0.07% compared to the previous month. Compared to 12/2023, April CPI increased by 1.19% and compared to the same period last year increased by 4.4%. On average, in the first four months of 2024, CPI increased by 3.93% over the same period last year; Core inflation increased by 2.81%.

– Gold price index in 4/2024 increased by 6.95% compared to the previous month; an increase of 17.01% compared to 12/2023; increased 28.62% over the same period last year; the average increase in the first 4 months of 2024 is 20.75%.

– US dollar price index in 4/2024 increased by 1.2% compared to the previous month; an increase of 3.03% compared to 12/2023; increased 6.51% over the same period last year; the average increase in the first 4 months of 2024 is 4.6%.

d) Transport

Transport activities in April take place vibrantly to serve the travel, tourism and consumption needs of the people during the Hung King’s Commemoration Day and the April 30-May 1 holiday.

Passenger transport in 4/2024 was estimated at 403.2 million passengers, increased by 1.3% over the previous month and passenger traffic was 22.8 billion passengers-kilometers, up 3.1% increased by 3.1% compared to the previous month. In the first four months of 2024, passenger carried was estimated at 1,602.6 million passengers, up 8.4% over the same period last year and passenger traffic was 89.7 billion passengers.km, increased by 12.7%.

Freight transport in 4/2024 was estimated at 210.9 million tons of freight carried, increased by 1.3% and 39.6 billion tons.km of freight traffic, increased by 0.7% over the previous month. Generally in the first four months of 2024, freight transport was estimated at 831 million tons of freight carried, up 12.7% over the same period last year and 166.8 billion tons.km of freight traffic, an increase of 7.6%.

 đ) International visitors to Viet Nam

Favorable visa policies and attractive tourism stimulus programs continue to be effective, attracting a high number of international visitors to Vietnam compared to the same period last year. The number of international visitors to Viet Nam in 4/2024 reached more than 1.6 million, increased by 58.2% compared to the same period last year. In the first four months of 2024, international visitors to our country reached more than 6.2 million arrivals, up 68.3% compared to the same period last year and up 3.9% compared to the same period of 2019 – the year before the Covid-19 pandemic.

7. Some social situations

– According to the survey, the living situation of households in April 2024 continues to improve. The work of ensuring social security is always concerned by all levels and sectors and implemented promptly and effectively. – In April (from March 15 to April 14, 2024), there were 1,995 traffic accidents nationwide. In the first four months of this year, there were 8,548 traffic accidents nationwide. On average, every day in the first four months of the year, there were 70 traffic accidents nationwide, including 48 traffic accidents of less serious severity and 22 traffic collisions, killing 29 people. 32 people were injured and 24 people suffered minor injuries.

– Damage caused by natural disasters in April is mainly due to the effects of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and landslides. In the first four months of this year, natural disasters left 10 people missing and 5 injured; 8.3 thousand houses collapsed and damaged; 1.3 thousand cattle and poultry died; 5.3 thousand hectares of rice and crops were damaged; The total value of property damage is estimated at 224.6 billion VND, an increase of 82.1% over the same period in 2023.

– In April 2023, according to reports from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Police of provinces and centrally run cities compiled by the Departments of Statistics, the authorities discovered 993 cases of environmental violations. , in which 904 cases were handled with a total fine of 27.7 billion VND, an increase of 15.4% over the same period last year. In the first four months of this year, 7,971 environmental violations were detected, of which 7,080 cases were handled with a total fine of 110.3 billion VND, an increase of 15.5% over the same period last year.

– In the first four months of this year, there were 1,555 fires and explosions nationwide, killing 28 people and injuring 26 people, with an estimated loss of 89.8 billion VND, down 41% over the same period last year. ./.
