Socio-economic situation in November and 11 months of 2023

1. Agriculture, forestry, and fishery

a) Agriculture

– Winter rice: As of mid-November, the whole country harvested 1,385.8 thousand hectares of winter rice, accounting for 89.7% of the cultivated area and equal to 103.5% of the same period last year; yield in the whole country was estimated at 53.3 tons/ha, an increase of 0.3 tons/ha compared to last year’s crop; output was estimated at 8.23 million tons, equivalent to last year’s crop

– Autumn-winter rice: As of November 15, 2023, the region has harvested 317.3 thousand hectares of autumn-winter rice, accounting for 44.8% of the cultivated area and equal to 107.7% of the same period last year. The total crop yield was estimated at 56.6 tons/ha, an increase of 0.7 tons/ha compared to last year’s crop; output was estimated at 4 million tons, an increase of 392 thousand tons.

– Spring rice: As of November 15, 2023, the southern localities had sown 244.8 thousand hectares of early winter-spring rice, equaling 86% of the same period last year, mainly in the Mekong Delta.

– Annual crops: This year’s winter crop focuses on crops of high economic value. In particular, focus on producing crops with stable output markets such as vegetables, beans, and peas.

– Livestock: Buffalo and cow husbandry during the month did not change much; pig farming faces difficulties due to low pork market prices and high input costs, and African swine fever has returned in some localities.. At the end of November, pig population increased by 4% compared to the same period in 2022; poultry population increased by 3%; cattle population increased by 0.6%; buffalo population decreased by 1%.

As of November 22, 2023, blue ear pig disease was still in Quang Binh; avian flu disease remained in Quang Nam; foot-and-mouth disease was still in Lang Son; LSD was reported in Cao Bang, Dak Lak and African swine fever was reported in 27 localities for less than 21 days.

b) Forestry

The area of concentrated newly planted forests nationwide in November 2023 was estimated at 33.3 thousand hectares, down 2.7% over the same period last year. Generally, in the 11 months of 2023, the area of newly concentrated planted forest was estimated at 261.9 thousand hectares, down 1.4%; the number of scattered forest trees reached 92 million trees, up 4.6%; timber production reached 18.2 mill. m³, up 2.9%; the damaged forest area was 1,690.7 hectares, up 61.4%, of which the destroyed forest area was 1,021.1 hectares, up 1.1%; the burned forest area was 669.6 hectares, 17.7 times higher.

c) Fishery

Fishery output in November, 2023 was estimated at 836.3 thousand tons, up 3.2% over the same period last year, including: aquaculture output reached 550.6 thousand tons, up 5.2%; the caught fishery output reached 285.7 thousand tons, down 0.4%. In general, in 11 months of 2023, fishery output was estimated at 8,473.5 thousand tons, up 2.2% over the same period last year, including: Fishes reached 6,024.8 thousand tons, up 1.7%; shrimp reached 1,231.6 thousand tons, up 5.2%; other fishery products reached 1,217.1 thousand tons, up 1.8%.

2. Industrial production

– The index of industrial production (IIP) in November was estimated to increase by 3% over the previous month  and increase by 5.8 % over the same period last year. General, in 11 months of 2023, IIP is estimated to increase by 1% compared to the same period last year (the same period in 2022 increased by 8.4 %). Of which, the manufacturing increased by 1.1% (the same period in 2022 increased by 8.7%), contributing 1.1 percentage points to the overall increase; The electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply increased by 3.2%, contributing 0.2 percentage points; water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 4.9%, contributing 0.1 percentage point; the mining industry decreased by 2.8%, reducing the overall increase by 0.4 percentage points.

– Industrial production index for 11 months of 2023 Compared to the same period last year increased in 50 localities and decreased in 13 localities across the country.

– The number of workers working in industrial enterprises as of November 1, 2023 increased by 0.9 % compared to the same time last month and decreased by 0.2 % compared to the same time last year.

3. Enterprise registration status^[1]

– In November, the whole country had more than 14,267 newly established enterprises, down 7.6% compared to November, 2023 and up 19.5% compared to the same period last year. In addition, the country also had 6,562 thousand enterprises re-operated, up 16.6% compared to the previous month and up 4.7% compared to the same period in 2022; 4,510 enterprises ceased for a certain time, down 18% compared to the previous month and up 12.6% over the same period in 2022; 6,598 enterprises temporarily ceased and awaited dissolution procedures, an increase of 34.7% and an increase of 29.5%; 1,443 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, down 3.9% and up 1.5%.

4. Investment

Investment capital realized from the State budget in November is estimated to reach 70.3 trillion VND, up 19.9 % over the same period last year. Overall, for the first 11 months of 2023, realized investment capital from the State budget is estimated to reach 549.1 trillion VND, equal to 75% of the yearly plan and an increase of 2.2.1 % over the same period last year (same period last year 2022 equals 74.9 % and increases by 20.9 %)

Total foreign investment capital registered in Vietnam  As of November 20, 2023, including: Newly registered capital, adjusted registered capital and value of capital contributions and share purchases by foreign investors reached nearly 28.85 billion USD, an increase of 14.8%. compared to the same period last year.

Foreign direct investment capital realized in Vietnam in the first 11 months of 2023 is estimated at 20.25 billion USD, up 2.9% over the same period last year.

Vietnam’s investment abroad in the first 11 months of 2023 had 117 projects newly granted investment certificates with a total Vietnamese capital of 257.3 million USD, down 35% over the same period last year. before; There were 24 projects with capital adjusted with an increased capital of 137.7 million USD, 1.8 times higher. Overall, Vietnam’s total investment capital abroad (new and adjusted capital) reached 395 million USD, down 16.7% over the same period last year.

5. State budget revenue and expenditure

Total State budget revenue in November 2023 was estimated to reach 126.9 trillion VND. Cumulative total State budget revenue in the 11 months of 2023 was estimated to reach 1,537.6 trillion VND, equal to 94.9% of the year’s estimate and down 7.1% over the same period last year.

Total State budget expenditure in November 2023 was estimated to reach 158.2 trillion VND; accumulated 11 months of 2023 reached 1,502.9 trillion VND, equal to 72.4% of the year’s estimate and up 10.9% over the same period last year.

6. Trade, prices, transport and tourism

a) Retail sales of consumer goods and services

Total retail sales of consumer goods and services in November was estimated at 552.7 trillion VND, up 1.4% over the previous month and up 10.1% over the same period last year. Generally, for 11 months of 2023, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services at current prices was estimated at 5,667 trillion VND, up 9.6% over the same period last year (up 20.2% in the same period in 2022), if excluding the price factor, up 7.0% (the same period in 2022 increased by 16.6%).

b) Export and import of goods^[2]

Total export and import turnover of goods^[3] in November was estimated at 60.88 billion USD, down 1.4% over the previous month and up 5.9% over the same period last year. Generally, in 11 months of 2023, the total export and import turnover of goods reached 619.17 billion USD, down 8.3% over the same period last year

+ Export turnover of goods in November 2023 was estimated at 31.08 billion USD, down 3.6% over the previous month and up 6.7% compared to the same period last year. Generally in 11 months of 2023, the export turnover was estimated at 322.5 billion USD, decreased by 5.9% over the same period last year.

+ Regarding the structure of exported groups in 11 months of 2023, the group of processing industry was estimated at 284.87 billion USD, accounting for 88.3%

 – Import of goods:

+ Import turnover in November 2023 was estimated at 29.8 billion USD, increased by 1% over the previous month and by 5.1% compared to the same period last year. Generally in 10 months of 2023, the import turnover was estimated at 296.67 billion USD, decreased by 10.7% over the same period last year.

+ Regarding the structure of imported groups in 11 months of 2023, the group of production materials was estimated at 278.18 billion USD, accounted for 93.8%

– Regarding the export and import market of goods in 11 months of 2023, the United States was Viet Nam’s largest export market with a turnover of 88 billion USD. China remained the largest import market of Viet Nam with a turnover of 99.6 billion USD.

– The trade balance of goods in November was estimated to have a trade surplus of 1.28 billion USD. Generally in 11 months of 2023, the trade balance of goods is estimated to have a trade surplus of 25.83 billion USD (in the same period last year, the trade surplus of 10.3 billion USD).

c) Consumer price index, gold price index and US dollar price index

– The consumer price index (CPI) in November 2023 increased by 0.25% compared to the previous month. Compared to December 2022, November CPI increased by 3.46% and compared to the same period last year increased by 3.45%. On average, in the 11 months of 2023, CPI increased by 3.22% over the same period last year; Core inflation increased by 4.27%.

– Gold price index in November 2023 increased by 2.77% compared to the previous month; an increase of 8.8% compared to December 2022; increased 9.29% over the same period last year; The average increase in the first 11 months of 2023 is 3.38%.

– US dollar price index in November 2023 increased by 0.05% compared to the previous month; an increase of 1.61% compared to December 2022; down 1.03% over the same period last year; The average increase in the first 11 months of 2023 is 1.94%.

d) Transport

Passenger carried in November was estimated at 403.1 million passengers, decreased by 2.4% over the previous month and passenger traffic was 20.4 billion passengers-kilometers, up 2.3%. In 11 months of 2023, passenger carried was estimated at 4,203.5 million passengers, up 11.5% over the same period last year and passenger traffic was 222.5 billion passengers.km, increased by 23.9%.

Freight transport in November was estimated at 189.9 million tons of freight carried, up 3% from the previous month and 43.1 billion tons.km of freight traffic, up 3.9%. Generally for 11 months of 2023, freight transport was estimated at  2,062.3 million tons of freight carried, up 12.9% over the same period last year and 442.4 billion tons.km of freight traffic, an increase of 10.5%.

đ) International visitors to Viet Nam

International visitors to Viet Nam in November reached over 1.2 million arrivals, up 10.9 % compared to the previous month and 2.1 times higher than the same period last year. In 11 months  of 2023, international visitors to our country reached more than 11.2 million arrivals, 3.8 times higher than the same period last year but still equal to 68.9% compared to the same period in 2019 – the year without the Covid-19.

In 11 months of this year, the Government exported a total of nearly 21.6 thousand tons of rice to support 1,437.8 thousand people, of which Support for people during Tet 2023 was 16,919.9 tons for 1,128 thousand people; Support for people in the border areas in 2023 was 4,647.5 tons for more than 309.8 thousand people.

– Fitness and sports movements Were widely organized, diverse, and rich with many outstanding events taking place during the month.

– During the month (from October 15 to November 14, 2023), there were 1,950 traffic accidents nationwide. In total, in the 11 months of this year, there were 11,779 traffic accidents nationwide; On average, every day, there were 35 traffic accidents nationwide, including 25 traffic accidents of less serious severity and 10 traffic collisions, killing 19 people, injuring 14 people and 11 people were slightly injured.

– Damage caused by natural disasters in November was mainly due to the effects of heavy rains, floods, and landslides. In total, in the 11 months of this year, natural disasters left 156 people dead or missing, and 141 people injured; Nearly 30.3 thousand houses collapsed and damaged; 94.8 thousand cattle and poultry died; Nearly 107.9 thousand hectares of rice and 43.7 thousand crops were damaged. The total value of property damage was estimated at 4,408.4 billion VND, down 68.7% over the same period in 2022.

– In November 2023 (from October 17 to November 16, 2023), authorities discovered 1,117 environmental violations. Overall, in the 11 months of this year, 16,014 cases of environmental violations were detected, of which 14,279 cases were handled with a total fine of 264.8 billion VND, an increase of 8.6% over the same period last year.

– During the month, there were 146 fires and explosions nationwide, killing 6 people and injuring 7 people, with an estimated damage of 28.5 billion VND, an increase of 48.2% compared to the previous month and 2.1 times higher than the previous month. period last year. In the 11 months of this year, there were 1,785 fires and explosions nationwide, killing 145 people and injuring 126 people, with an estimated loss of 258.3 billion VND, down 55.6% over the same period last year./.
