The production index in the 9 months of 2023 of a number of key sectors in secondary industries increased compared to the same period last year: Manufacture of tobacco products increased by 9.6%; manufacture of rubber and plastics products increased by 8.7%; manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment increased by 7.4%; manufacture of chemicals and chemical products increased by 6.2%; Manufacture of food products increased by 5.8%; water collection, treatment and supply increased by 5.4%. In the opposite direction, the IIP index of some industries decreased: Manufacture of other transport equipment decreased by 7.2%; manufacture of motor vehicles; trailers and semi-trailers decreased by 5.2%; manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c decreased by 4%; Extraction of crude petroleum and nutural gas decreased by 3.6%; manufacture of paper and paper products decreased by 3.5%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products decreased by 3.4%; Manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork decreased by 3%. Particularly, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products has had a positive recovery since August 2023 after 7 consecutive months of decline[1]. In the third quarter of 2023, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products industry showed signs of improvement when the IIP index increased by 3.2% over the same period last year (the first quarter decreased by 5.4%; the second quarter decreased 3.6%); Overall, the 9 months of 2023 decrease by 2.2%.
[1]Compared to the same period last year, the IIP index of the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products from January to September 2023 increased/decreased respectively: -1.1%; -3.2%; -11.4%; -3.6%; -6.5%; -0.5%; -2.4%; 4.1% and 7.5%.
