1. Agriculture, forestry and fishery
a) Agriculture
– Winter-spring rice: As of January 15, 2023, the whole country cultivated 1,882.1 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, equaling 99.9% of the same period last year, of which: Northern localities reached 105.1. a thousand hectares, equaling 79.6%; the southern provinces reached 1,777 thousand hectares, equaling 101.4%, the Mekong River Delta alone reached 1,434.9 thousand hectares, equaling 99.8%.
– Annual crops: As of mid-January, the whole country planted 138.8 thousand hectares of maize, equaling 96.9% of the same period last year; 29.3 thousand hectares of sweet potatoes, equaling 97.9%; 28.3 thousand hectares of peanuts, equal to 99.2%; 3.1 thousand hectares of soybeans, equaling 93.2%; 313.4 thousand hectares of vegetables and beans, equaling 107.1%.
– Livestock production in the month develops stably: The total number of pigs in the country by the end of January 2023 increased by 10.4% compared to the same period in 2022; the total number of cows increased by 3%; the total number of buffaloes decreased by 1.7%; the total number of poultry increased by 3.4%. As of January 25, 2023, the whole country has no longer blue-ear disease, foot-and-mouth disease and LSD; avian flu remained Quang Ninh, African swine fever was reported in 10 localities for less than 21 days.
b)Forestry
The area of concentrated newly planted forests nationwide in January 2023 was estimated at 8.1 thousand ha, up 5% over the same period in 2022; the number of scattered forest trees reached 4.5 million trees, up 4.9%; timber production reached 951.6 thousand m3, up 1.6%; damaged forest area was 29.9 ha, down 44.3% over the same period last year, of which: burnt forest area was 2.5 ha, down 64.4%; the deforested forest area was 27.4 ha, down 41.2%.
c) Fishery
Fishery output in January 2023 was estimated at 592.1 thousand tons, up 0.2% over the same period last year, including Aquaculture production in the month was estimated at 333.7 thousand tons, up 3.5%; Catch fishery production in January 2023 was estimated at 258.4 thousand tons, down 3.8%, Of which, the marine fishing production was estimated at 244.8 thousand tons, down 4%.
2. Industrial production
– It was estimated that the index of industrial production (IIP) in January 2023 decreased by 14.6% compared to the previous month and decreased by 8% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the production index of the manufacturing industry in January 2023 decreased by 9.1% over the same period last year, , reducing 7 percentage points in the general increase; mining industry decreased by 4.9%, decreased by 0.8 percentage points; electricity production and distribution decreased by 3.4%, down by 0.3 percentage points; water supply industry, waste and wastewater treatment and management activities alone increased by 3.7%, contributing 0.1 percentage point.
– Industrial production index in January 2023 compared with the same period last year decreased in 30 localities and increased in 33 localities across the nation.
– Number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of 01/01/2023 decreased by 0.9% compared to the same period last month and increased by 0.2% compared to the same period last year.
3. Enterprise registration status
In January 2023, the whole country had 10.8 thousand newly established enterprises, an increase of 0.7% compared to December 2022 and a decrease of 16.6% compared to the same period last year; In addition, there were 15.1 thousand re-operated enterprises, up 146.8% compared to December 2022 and decreased by 21.2% compared to January 2022, bringing the total number of newly-established enterprises and re-operated enterprises in January 2023 to 25.9 thousand enterprises, a decrease of 19.3% over the same period last year.
In January 2023, 34,994 enterprises ceased for a certain time, an increase of 19.6 % compared to the same period 2022; 6,841 enterprises temporarily ceased and awaited dissolution procedures, down 3.4%; 2,038 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, up 0.6%.
4. Investment
– Investment capital realized under the State budget in January 2023 was estimated at 27 trillion VND, equaling 4% of the year plan and up 3.2% against the same period last year (the same period last year 2022 equaled 4.4% and increased by 12.4%).
– The foreign direct investment from the beginning of the year to 20th January 2023 including newly registered capital, adjust registered capital, and the total value of capital contribution and share purchases of foreign investors reached 1.69 billion USD, decreased by 19.8% compared to the same period in 2022.
- Foreign direct investment capital that was implemented in January of 2023 reached35 billion USD, an decrease of 16.3% over the same period last year.
- Vietnam’s investment abroad in 01/2023, there were 3 projects newly granted investment certificates with a total investment capital of 126.6 million USD, 2.9 times higher over the same period of last year; 01 turns of projects adjusted capital with adjust capital up 140.4 million USD (the same period last year was -7.2 million USD). Generally, the total investment capital of Vietnam abroad (newly and additionally licensed capital) reached 126.7 million USD,4 times higher over the same period last year.
5. State budget revenues and expenditures
Total state budget revenue in January 2023 was estimated at 183.7 trillion VND, equaling 11.3% of the year estimate and down 0.5% over the same period last year. Total state budget expenditure in January 2023 was estimated at 114.9 trillion VND, equaling 5.5% of the annual estimate and increasing by 0.9% over the same period last year.
6. Trade, price, transportation and tourism
a) Retail sales of consumer goods and services
Total retail sales of consumer goods and services in January 2023 were estimated at 544.8 trillion VND, up 5.2% over the previous month and 20% over the same period last year, if excluding the price factor, it increased by 15.8% (in the same period in 2022, it decreased by 4%). However, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services in January of this year only reached 88.1% of this target if it was estimated that in normal conditions there would be no Covid-19 epidemic from 2020 to the present.
b) Export and import of goods
– Export of goods
+ Export turnover in January 2023 was estimated at 25.08 billion USD, a decrease of 13.6% over the previous month and went down 21.3% compared to the same period last year.
+ Regarding the structure of exported groups in January 2023, the group of processing industry accounting for 89%
– Import of goods
+ Import turnover in January 2023 was estimated at 21.48 billion USD, which decreased by 21.3% over the previous month and decreased by 28.9% compared to the same period last year.
+ Regarding the structure of imported goods in January 2023, the group of production materials accounting for 93%.
– Regarding the export, import of goods market in January 2023, the United States was Viet Nam’s largest export market with a turnover of 7.6 billion USD. China remained the largest import market of Viet Nam with a turnover of 8.1 billion USD.
– The trade balance of goods for January 2023 was estimated at 3.6 billion USD, Of which the domestic economic sector saw a trade deficit of 1.04 billion USD; the FDI sector (including crude oil) saw a trade surplus of 4.64 billion USD.
c) Consumer price index, gold price index and US dollar price index
– Consumer price index (CPI) in January 2023 increased by 0.52% over the previous month and by 4.89% over the same period in 2022. Core inflation in January 2023 increased by 5.21% over the same period last year, higher than the general average CPI (up 4.89%) mainly due to the fall in gas prices and educational service prices were the limiting factor in CPI growth in January this year, which belongs to the group of goods that are excluded from the core inflation calculation list.
– Gold price index in January 2023 increased by 0.51% compared to the previous month; increased by 3.57% over the same period last year.
– US dollar price index in January 2023 decreased by 2.05% compared to the previous month; increased 3.18% over the same period last year.
d) Transport
Passengers carried in January 2023 were estimated at 341.7 million persons, increased by 11.9% compared to the previous month, and an increase of 34.7% over the same period last year; passenger traffic gained 19 billion passengers-km, increased by 16% and up 71.3%. Freight carried in January 2023 was estimated at 202.8 million tons, increased by 5.4% compared to the previous month, and up 16.2% against the similar period last year ; freight traffic gained 34 billion tons-km, decreased by 14.9% and increased by 5.3%.
International visitors to our country in January were estimated at 871.2 thousand arrivals, increased by 23.2% compared to the previous month and 44.2 times higher over the same period last year because Viet Nam has opened up to tourism, and international routes have been restored. However, international visitors to Viet Nam was still down 42% compared to 2019, the year of no Covid-19 epidemic.
7. Social issues
According to the survey, the living situation of households in January 2023 continues to improve. The percentage of households assessed that their income in the month remained unchanged and increased compared to the same month last year was 92.9%; the percentage of households hitting households with reduced income was 7.1%.
Ensuring social security on the occasion of the Lunar New Year for people with meritorious services to the revolution, social protection beneficiaries, and people in difficult circumstances has been effectively, joyfully and warmly implemented. According to a report of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, during the Lunar New Year, the budget for giving gifts to objects from the central and local budgets and social mobilization sources with a total budget of about 10 trillion VND (the central budget was about 600 billion VND; the local budget is about 3,200 billion VND).
In addition, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1654/QĐ-TTg dated December 30, 2022; Decisions No. 14/QĐ-TTg; Decision No. 15/QĐ-TTg; Decision No. 16/QĐ-TTg and Decision No. 18/QĐ-TTg dated January 13, 2023; Decision No. 21/QĐ-TTg dated January 18, 2023, to support rice for nearly 200,000 households with 1.2 million people on the occasion of the Lunar New Year and the between season in 2023 for 17 provinces with 18 thousand tons of rice.
The Covid-19 epidemic in the world continues to be complicated[1]. . Since the first case of Covid-19 in Vietnam on January 23, 2020 to January 28, 2023, there were than 11.5 million cases have been reported, of which 10.6 million cases have been cured and 43.2 thousand deaths. Vaccination against Covid-19 continues to be carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Health to ensure the requirements of the Government, the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control. From March 8, 2021 to January 26, 2023, the total number of doses of Covid-19 vaccine that have been administered was 266.1 million doses, of which the first dose was 90,5 million doses; the second dose was 85,9 million doses; additional doses 14,5 million doses; the first booster dose 57,7 million doses; the second booster dose 17,5 million doses.
In January (December 15, 2022 to January 14, 2023), there were 797 traffic accidents in the whole country, decreased by 29.2% compared to the previous month and decreased by 17.2% compared with the same period last year. On average, one day in a month, across the country, there are 26 traffic accidents. During the 7 days of the Lunar New Year holiday (January 20-26, 2023), 152 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 89 people and injuring 111 others. Compared to the Lunar New Year holiday, the number of accidents decreased by 7.3%, the number of deaths decreased by 3.3% and the number of injured people increased by 8%.
Natural disasters in the month are mainly heavy rain; landslides damaged 6.6 thousand ha of paddy and crops; 93 houses were flooded and damaged, the damage was estimated at 16.1 billion VND, down 97.1% over the same period in 2022.
In January 2023, according to reports from the Statistics Departments of provinces and centrally run cities, the authorities detected 2,880 cases of environmental violations, of which 2,398 cases were handled with a total fine of nearly 28 billion VND, up 11.5% over the previous month and up 8% over the same period last year.
In the month, there were 149 fires and explosions in the whole country, killing 5 people and injuring 7 people, the damage value was estimated at nearly 7.2 billion VND, down 65.9% compared to the previous month and down 70% over the same period last year.
