To evaluate living standards for policy-making and socio-economic development planning, from 1993 to now the General Statistics Office (GSO) conducts the Viet Nam Household Living Standards Survey (VHLSS). From 2002 to 2010, this survey has been conducted regularly by the GSO every two years. From 2011 to 2020, VHLSS are conducted annually. However, the odd-numbered year surveys only collect data on demographics, employment and income. The purpose of the VHLSS in order to systematically monitor and supervise the living standards of different population groups in Viet Nam; to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Comprehensive Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy; and to contribute to the evaluation of achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Vietnam’s socio-economic development goals.
The VHLSS 2020 was conducted in accordance with Decision No. 1261/QĐ-TCTK dated August 19, 2019 of the GSO Director General. The VHLSS has been organized and implemented in accordance with the contents of the plan and the process of producing high level statistical information. To serve the needs of users of statistical information on living standards of Viet Nam in 2020, the GSO has compiled detailed data tabulations and is publishing “Results of the Viet Nam Household Living Standards Survey 2020” which consists of 2 parts:
Overview of Living Standards of Viet Nam 2020, with the contents:
● Some basic demographic characteristics related to living standards;
● Education;
● Health and health care;
● Employment and income;
● Consumption expenditure;
● Housing, electricity, water, sanitation facilities and durable goods;
● Poverty reduction;
● Commune general characteristics;
● Overall remarks.
Synthesized data on the Viet Nam Household Living Standards Survey 2020, with a group of statistical indicators on living standards:
● Some basic demographic characteristics related to living standards;
● Education;
● Health and health care;
● Labour – Employment;
● Income;
● Consumption expenditure;
● Durable goods;
● Housing, electricity, water, sanitation facilities;
● Participation in poverty alleviation programmes;
● Household businesses;
● Commune general characteristics.
