On the afternoon of June 8, 2018, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) and the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) held the Signing Ceremony of Cooperation Agreement for the Implementation of the Project “Vietnam – Improvement of National Statistical System”. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Deputy Director General of GSO and Ms. Marina Gandolfo, Head of Division for International Affairs of ISTAT co-chaired the Ceremony. Also attending this event were representatives of leaders and experts of two agencies.
ISTAT and GSO have jointly identified the following intervention areas for the enhancement of GSO statistical capacity in order to improve its leading role in statistics: (1) Assessment of situation of statistical production in terms of energy, environment statistics and climate change; (2) Improvement of managerial skills/governance skills; (3) Improvement of staff capacity; (4) Strengthen ICT capabilities for statistical dissemination and building up of integrated database/data warehouse.
According to these identified areas, the components were defined within the Project including: (1) Institutional building; (2) Energy; (3) Environment and climate change; (4) Dissemination; (5) Information and communication technology (ICT).
ISTAT and GSO have appointed relevant experts as technical coordinators for each component. The component coordinators will work in close cooperation for the technical implementation of the activities defined in the Project work-plan. The Project will be completed by April 2021. A Project Management Board is established for the whole duration of the Project in order to better steer and monitor the project progresses and its results.
Speaking at the Ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Deputy Director General of GSO emphasized: “GSO commits to strictly implement the contents of components within the Project”, at the same time, thanked ISTAT for helping GSO improve the capacity of statistics on the areas that both sides have signed.
