In the morning, 6th November, 2017, the General Statistics Office (GSO) had a courtesy reception for the study delegation from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) leaded by Mr. Shafiul Alam, Project Director (Additional Secretary), National Household Database (NHD) Project, BBS to the GSO for a study visit from 6th – 10th November, 2017. Mr. Vu Thanh Liem, Deputy Director General of GSO chaired the reception. Attending the reception were representatives of leaders and staffs of Administrator Department, Social and Environmental Statistics Department, and Foreign Statistics and International Cooperation Department, GSO.
The main aim of the delegation’s study visit is to learn about the GSO’s skills and experience in “Measuring poverty using an approach of Proxy Means Tests (PMT)” in order to implement the household census properly in Bangladesh. The representatives of Social and Environmental Statistics Department (GSO), Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the National Economics University of Vietnam exchanges with the delegation the following contents: (1) Overview of poverty measurement methods in Vietnam; (2) Vietnam’s poverty reduction policy system; (3) Policies on social protection in Vietnam; (4) Measuring poverty using an approach of Proxy Means Tests (PMT) and the survey on poverty. Besides, two sides also discuss how to apply PMT in Bangladesh.
Also in the framework of this mission, the delegation will go to practice in Ninh Binh province for learning about the data collection of the Poverty Census 2015 and the List of poor households in the Living Standards Survey 2017.
