In the afternoon, October 23th, 2017, the expert delegation of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) paid a visit and worked with the General Statistics Office (GSO) to learn about the situation to serve the pre-feasibility study for developing the technical assistance project in the period 2018-2020 funded by the Government of Italy.
The expert delegation of Italy included Ms. Marina Gandolfo, Head of Division for International Affairs, ISTAT; Mr. Carlo Vaccari, Division for International Affairs; Ms. Roberta Fontana, Division for International Affairs, ISTAT and representatives of AICS in Hanoi.
GSO gave a warm and friendly reception to the delegation, Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO attended and chaired the reception. Participating in this reception were Mr. Vu Thanh Liem, Deputy Director General of GSO and representatives of the Foreign Statistics and International Cooperation Department.
Opening the reception, Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam welcomed the delegation’s mission and presented the achievements of GSO in the past time. In 2014, GSO had a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between two national statistical agencies of two countries. In the coming time, the Government of Italy will give the GSO to the technical assistance project in the period 2018-2020. GSO proposed three important fields: (1) Improvement of the GSO’s ability in the field of environment; (2) Statistics on energy development; (3) Dissemination of statistical information after compiling and disseminating to the Government and the mass of data users.
In the mission to the GSO, the delegation wishes to learn about the following contents: (1) Institutional framework: National Statistical System; organization, structure and governance of GSO; Statistical Law; coordination within the National Statistical System; planning process of statistical production; (2) General view on statistical production process and thematic statistics on society, environment, population, agriculture, forestry and fishery, national account, trade and services, industry and prices; (3) Overview on information and communications technology (ICT): organization, infrastructure, software used, needs, innovation; (4) Implementation of Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); (5) Statistical dissemination.
The representative of Italian expert delegation thanked Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO for taking time to receive the delegation and said that they would coordinate with the GSO to promote the follow-up activities so that the project could be implemented as scheduled. Also in the framework of the mission, the delegation will work with the Ninh Binh Province’s Statistical Office to learn more about local statistics.
