Socio-economic situation in 8 months of 2017

 

1. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries

a. Agriculture

Up to August 15, the country has planted 1,349.4 thousand hectares of winter rice, equaling 99.8% over the same period last year, of which the northern provinces basically ended the sowing with an area of ​​1.128 thousand hectares, equals 100.1%; Southern provinces reached 221.4 thousand ha, equaling 98.4%.

The area of ​​summer-autumn rice cultivation of the country this year was estimated at 2,105.2 thousand hectares, equivalent to the same period last year. Up to the middle of August, the country harvested 1,056.9 thousand hectares of summer-autumn rice, equaling 111.1% over the same period last year. According to local reports, yield of summer-autumn rice on harvested area was about 54.9-55.4 quintals / ha, increased 1-1.5 quintals / ha over same period last year.

Up to August 15, localities in the country have planted 914.1 thousand hectares of maize, equaling 96.3% over the same period last year; 66.2 thousand hectares of soybeans, equaling 88.1%; 173 thousand hectares of peanuts, 97.5%; 854.9 thousand ha of vegetables, beans, equaling 94.4%; Sweet potato alone reached 101.7 thousand ha, equaling 101.4%.

The nationwide buffalo was estimated to have decreased by 0.5% over the same period last year; cattle increased 2.8%; pigs reduced by 4%; poultry up 5.1%.

 

 

b. Forestry

Generally for 8 months, the area of ​​concentrated forestation is estimated at 140.2 thousand ha, increasing 5.6% over the same period last year; The number of scattered planted trees reached 75.3 million, down by 0.5%; Timber production reached 6,583 thousand m3, up 6.5%; The output of firewood was 18.5 million m3, down 0.5%.

Generally for 8 months, the damaged forest area was 1,225.1 hectares, down 59% over the same period last year, of which the burnt area was 455.2 hectares, down 78.7%; the area of ​​cleared forest was 769.9 ha, decreasing by 9.6%.

c. Fishery

In the first eight months of 2017, aquaculture production was estimated at 4,738.4 thousand tons, up 4.6% against the same period last year, of which aquaculture production reached 2,490.9 thousand tons, up 4, 3%; Production of exploited aquatic products reached 2,247.5 thousand tons, up 4.9%.

2. Industry

For the first eight months of 2017, industrial production index increased 6.7% over the same period last year, lower than the 7.2% growth of the same period in 2016 [1] but higher than the 6.5% increase of 7 months of this year.

Generally, in the first seven months of the year, the manufacturing sector saw a 9.5% increase compared to the first seven months of 2016 (same period last year increased 8.1%). Inventory index of the whole processing industry as of 01/18/2017 increased by 9.8% compared to the same period of last year (same period of 2016 increased by 8.9%). The average stock of processing industry in the first seven months of 2017 is 65.3%.

The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of 1 August 2017 increased by 4.3% over the same period last year, of which state-owned enterprises decreased by 4%; non-state enterprises increased by 0.9%; Foreign direct investment enterprises increased by 7.6%. At the same time, the number of employees working in the mining sector decreased by 7% over the same period last year; Manufacturing up 5.1%; Electricity production and distribution fell by 3.2%; Water supply and waste, waste water treatment decreased by 1.1%.

 

 

3. Business registration status [2]

In the eight months of this year, the country has 85,357 newly established registered enterprises with a total registered capital of 822.1 trillion VND, increasing 16.3% in enterprises and 44.8% in registered capital over the same period in 2016; The average registered capital of newly established enterprises was VND9.6 billion, up 24.5%[3]. Including 1,108.3 trillion dong of nearly 24,700 turns of businesses changed the capital increase, the total registered capital added to the economy in the first 8 months of 2017 is 1,930.4 trillion VND. In addition, there were 19,154 businesses returning to operation, up 2.4% over the same period last year, bringing the total number of newly registered enterprises and enterprises returning to operation for 8 months to over 104.5 thousand enterprises. Total number of registered laborers of newly-established enterprises in 8 months was 822.4 thousand people, decreasing 4.1% over the same period last year.

According to the main business lines, in the first eight months of 2017, 30.7 thousand new enterprises were established in the wholesale and retail industry (accounting for 36% of the total newly established enterprises), an increase of 17.9% over the same period. last year; 11 thousand construction enterprises

The number of enterprises suspended for 8 months was 45,776, up by 13.3% over the same period last year, including 17,231 enterprises registered for temporary termination of business, up 15.5% and 28,545 enterprises suspending non-registered or awaiting dissolution, up 12%. Out of the total number of registered businesses, there are 7,171 one member limited liability companies (accounting for 41.6%); 5,508 two member limited liability companies (accounting for 32%); 2,912 joint stock companies (accounting for 16.9%); 1,637 private enterprises (9.5%) and 3 partnerships. For businesses suspending non-registered or awaiting dissolution, there are 12,602 one-member limited liability companies (accounting for 44.1%); 8,414 two-member limited liability companies (accounting for 29.5%); 5,568 joint stock companies (19.5%) and 1,961 private enterprises (6.9%).

 

 

4. Investment

In the first eight months of this year, investment capital from the state budget was VND166.4 trillion, equal to 56.1% of the yearly plan and up 7.3% over the same period of 2016, including: The central managed budget 38.3 trillion VND, equaling 54.5% of the yearly plan and increasing 6% over the same period last year. Local managed capital 128.1 trillion VND, equaling 56.5% of the year plan and up 7.7% over the same period in 2016.


Foreign direct investment from the beginning of the year to 20/8/2017 attracted 1,624 newly licensed projects with a registered capital of $ 13.5 billion, an increase of 0.3% in number of projects and an increase of 37. 4% in registered capital over the same period of 2016. In addition, 773 projects licensed in the previous years registered to adjust capital with additional capital reached US$ 6.4 billion, increased 40.2% over the same period last year, bringing the total newly registered capital and additional capital in 8 months 2017 to USD 19.9 billion, up 38.3% over the same period in 2016.

In the first eight months of 2017, there were 3,374 times of capital transfers, share purchase of foreign investors with a total capital contribution of $ 3.5 billion. Thus, the total registered capital of new projects, additional capital and investment in the form of capital contribution and share purchase in 8 months reached US$ 23.4 billion, up 45.1% over the same period last year. Foreign direct investment (FDI) was US $ 10.3 billion, up 5.1% over the same period last year.

In the eight months of this year, 54 provinces and centrally-run cities have new licensed foreign direct investment projects in 71 countries and territories.

 

 

5. State budget revenues and expenditures

Total state budget revenue from the beginning of the year to 15/8/2017 was estimated at 706.9 trillion VND, equaling 58.3% of the yearly estimate, of which domestic revenue was 556.4 trillion VND equaling 56.2%; Revenue from crude oil was 28 trillion VND, equaling 73.1%; The balance of revenue from export and import activities was 121.1 trillion VND, equaling 67.3%. In domestic revenue, land use fees reached VND 63.7 trillion, equaling 99.9% of the yearly estimate; Personal income tax revenue is 51.2 trillion VND, equaling 63.2%; Taxes on public, non-state and non-state services: VND 110.3 trillion, equaling 56.8%; Environmental taxes collected 23.9 trillion, equaling 52.8%; Income from foreign-invested enterprises (excluding crude oil) was VND 102.3 trillion, equaling 50.9%; Income from state owned enterprises is 122.4 trillion VND, equaling 42.7%.

Total state budget spending from the beginning of the year to 15/8/2017 was estimated at VND747.3 trillion, equaling 53.7% of the yearly estimate, of which regular expenditures were VND548 trillion, equaling 61.1%; interest payments 65.6 trillion, equaling 66.3%; Investment and development expenditures alone reached VND 131.1 trillion, equaling only 36.7% of the yearly estimate. The principal repayment from the beginning of the year to 15/8/2017 was estimated at VND 119.7 trillion, equaling 73% of the yearly estimate.

6. Trade, price, transport and tourism

a. Retailing of goods and sales of consumer services

Generally for 8 months, the total retail sales of goods and services reached VND2,580.2 trillion, up 10.3% over the same period last year, if excluding the price factor rose 8.9% ( higher than the 8.5% growth rate of the same period in 2016).

By sector, retail sales of goods were estimated at VND1,935.6 trillion, accounting for 75% of the total and up 10.3% over the same period last year. Revenue from accommodation and catering services was estimated at VND318 trillion, accounting for 12.3% of the total and up 11.3% over the same period last year (higher than the increase of 8.9% in 2016’ same period). Turnover from tourism was estimated at 23.1 trillion VND, accounting for 0.9% of the total and increasing 11% over the same period last year. Revenue from other services was estimated at VND303.4 trillion, accounting for 11.8% of the total and up 8.9% over the same period last year.

 

 
b. Exports and imports

For 8 months, export turnovers were estimated at USD 133.50 billion, up 17.9% over the same period last year, of which the domestic economic sector gained USD 37.83 billion, up 15, 7%; Foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) reached $ 95.67 billion, an increase of 18.9%.

On the export market, the United States remained the largest export market of Vietnam with an eight month turnover of $ 27.2 billion, up 9.7% over the same period last year; Followed by the EU with US $ 24.7 billion, up 12.7%; China reached 18.3 billion, up 41.8%; ASEAN reached 14.1 billion, up 26.6%; Japan reached 10.9 billion dollars, up 16.1%; South Korea reached $ 9 billion, up 24%.

Generally for 8 months, import turnovers were estimated at $ 135.63 billion, up 22.3% against the same period last year, of which the domestic economic sector gained $ 54.24 billion, up 18, 4%; Foreign-invested sector: $ 81.39 billion, up 25%.

Regarding import goods market, China remains the largest import market of Vietnam in the first eight months of this year with turnover of USD 36.4 billion, up 14.7% over the same period of 2016; followed by South Korea with $ 30.2 billion, up 47.5%[4]; ASEAN reached 18.1 billion, up 17.8%; Japan reached $ 10.5 billion, up 8.9%; EU reached 7.9 billion, up 12.5%; The United States reached $ 6.2 billion, up 17.5%.

In the first eight months of 2017, the trade deficit was $ 2.13 billion, equaling 1.6% of the total export turnover, of which the domestic trade deficit was $ 16.41 billion; The foreign invested sector (including crude oil) surpassed $ 14.28 billion.

 

 
c. Consumer price index, gold price index and US dollar price index

The average consumer price index in 8 months in 2017 increased by 3.84% compared to that in 2016’ same period. Consumer price index in 8/2017 increased by 1.23% compared to December 2016 and increased by 3.35% % compared to the same period last year.

The average basic inflation rose 1.47% over the same period in 2016. Gold price index in 8/2017 increased by 1.11% over the previous month; Increased 3.42% compared with December 2016 and decreased 2.35% over the same period last year. USD price index in August 2017 decreased by 0.03% over the previous month; Decreased 0.06% compared to December 2016 and increased 1.83% over the same period in 2016.

Passenger carriage in August was estimated at 343.9 million passengers, down 0.3% over the previous month and 16.1 billion passengers-kilometers, down 0.2%. Generally for 8 months, passenger transportation reached 2.665 million passengers, up 10.7% over the same period last year and 121.1 billion passengers.km, up 9.3%, of which passenger transport by road reached 2,509.6 million passengers, increasing by 11% and 81.4 billion passengers-kilometers, increasing by 8.3%; Airline reached 30.8 million passengers, up 14.8% and 34.5 billion passengers-kilometers, up 12.1%; railways reached 7.1 million passengers, down 1.1% and 2.8 billion passengers-kilometers, up 7.9%; sea ​​transport reached 4.5 million passengers, up 11.6% and 231.3 million passengers-kilometers, up 12%.

Cargo traffic in August was estimated at 119.4 million tonnes, down 0.6 percent from the previous month and 22.5 billion tonnes.km, up 0.6 percent. For the first eight months, cargo traffic was 944.8 million tons, up 9.7% over the same period last year and 175.4 billion tons.km, up 6.4%, of which domestic transport was 922 9 million tons, up 10% and 87.5 billion tons-kilometers, up 11.5%; Foreign transport reached 21.9 million tons, up 0.5% and 87.9 billion tons-kilometers, up 1.7%. By sector, road transport gained 733.4 million tons, increasing by 10.2% against same period last year and 46.4 billion tons-kilometers, increasing by 11.8%; riverway reached 162.2 million tons, up 7.4% and 34.4 billion tons-kilometers, up 7.9%; sea ​​transport reached 45.3 million tons, up 10.4% and 91.7 billion tons-kilometers, up 3.2%; The railway reached 3.7 million tons, up 8.9% and 2.3 billion tons-kilometers, up 11.1%.

 

 
e. International visitors to Vietnam

For the 8 months of this year, international visitors to our country were estimated at 8,482.4 thousand arrivals, up 29.7% over the same period last year, of which arrivals by air reached 7.182.5 thousand people up 32.1%; By land reached 1.110 thousand people, up 21.4%; By sea reached 179.9 thousand people, equivalent to the same period in 2016.

In the first eight months, visitors from Asia reached 6,325,000, an increase of 34.8% over the same period last year. Visitors from Europe were estimated at 1,279 thousand, increasing by 20.4% over the same period last year. Visitors from the Americas reached 565.2 thousand, increasing 10.8% over the same period last year.

 

 

7. Social issues

a. Farmers’ food shortage

In the eight months of 2017, the country had 161.9 thousand households of food shortage, down 33.5% over the same period last year, corresponding to 664.2 thousand people of food shortage, down 34.2%. To overcome hunger, from the beginning of the year to now, the levels, branches and organizations from the central to local levels have provided food shortage households with 17.3 thousand tons of food and about 1.1 billion VND.

b. Situation of disease, food poisoning

Generally, in 8 months, there were nearly 43.2 thousand cases of foot and mouth disease in the whole country; 402 cases of typhoid; 495 cases of encephalitis virus (15 deaths); 24 cases of meningococcal meningitis (3 deaths); 131 cases of Culex tritaeniorhynchus encephalitis (4 deaths); 28 cases infected Zika virus; 508 cases of pertussis (5 deaths) and 126 cases of human strep thrombosis (11 deaths).

The viral hemorrhagic fever epidemic continues to evolve with the increasing number of hospitalized patients. In August there were 27.2 thousand cases (8 deaths), bringing the total number of cases in 8 months to 80.6 thousand cases, of which 60.1 thousand cases. Hospitalized (22 deaths).

The total number of HIV infected people living in the country as of 17/8/2017 is 219.8 thousand people, of which 91 thousand have been transitioned to AIDS; the death toll from HIV / AIDS in the country to date was 91.9 thousand people.

Between December 18, 2016 and 17/8/2017, there were 77 serious food poisoning cases in the whole country, of which 2,231 persons were poisoned, of which 17 were fatal.

c. Traffic accidents

In the eight months of 2017, 12,775 traffic accidents occurred in the whole country, including 6,295 traffic accidents of less serious or more and 6,480 traffic crashes, leaving 5,422 dead, 3,153 Injured and 7,381 people were slightly injured. Compared with the same period last year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 6.3% in the first eight months of this year (the number of traffic accidents from less serious and over down 5.4%, the number of traffic crashes decreased by 7.2%); Number of deaths decreased by 5.5%; The number of injured people decreased by 16.2% and the number of minor injuries by 8.2%.

Of the total of 6,295 traffic accidents from less serious and over in 8 months, 6,109 cases (97%) occurred in roads, causing 5,285 deaths and 3,107 injuries; Rail traffic accidents were 104, causing 90 deaths and 30 injuries; 82 seashore and maritime accidents resulted in 47 deaths and 16 injuries. On average, in the first eight months of 2017, 53 accidents occurred in the whole country, including 26 minor traffic accidents and 27 traffic crashes, leaving 22 dead, 13 were injured and 30 were slightly injured.

d. Damage caused by natural disaster

In 8 months of 2017, natural disasters made 140 people died and lost, 135 injured; 29.7 thousand houses were collapsed by landslide, roofs blown away; 44.3 thousand hectares of rice and 30.3 thousand hectares of crops were flooded or damaged. The total value of damage in 8 months is estimated at 4.6 trillion VND.

e. Environmental protection, fire and explosion prevention

Generally, in the first 8 months of 2017, 12,037 cases of violations of environmental protection law have been detected in the whole country, of which 9,856 cases were treated with total fines of over 145.5 billion VND.

In general, in the eight months of this year, 2,915 fires and explosions occurred in the whole country, causing 71 deaths and 188 injuries, estimated at about VND 1,186 billion.
