On the morning of January 6, 2020, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) opened the Conference on deploying the working plan and training the enterprise survey plan in 2020. Attending the Conference were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung – Minister of Planning and Investment; Mr. Pham Anh Tuan – Deputy Minister of Information and Communications; Ms. Mai Thi Thu Van – Vice Chairman of the Government Office; Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam – Director General of GSO, chairman of the Conference; representatives of ministries and line-ministries; leaders and former leaders of the GSO; representatives of sectoral statistics; leaders and former leaders of units under the GSO; leaders of provincial statistical offices of 63 provinces and centrally-run cities.
At the Conference, Director General Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam presented the summary of results of implementing the working plan in 2019 and set out orientations for the working plan in 2020 of the Statistics.
In 2019, the Statistics sector completed the central tasks and ensured the statistical information. Two outstanding achievements of the Statistics sector in the past year were the successful implementation of the 2019 Population and Housing Census, and the revision of GDP size.
Speaking at the Conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc identified that the Statistics sector played a very important role in the development of the country, a a scientific basis for policy-making. The Prime Minister was pleased to say that in 2018, regarding the overall index of statistical capacity according to the World Banks evaluation criteria, Vietnam ranked 19/145 countries and territories, and second in Southeast Asia.
Also at the Conference, collectives and individuals with remarkable contributions to the Statistics sector were awarded medals and certificates of merit by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
